Once your family has been notified they've been selected for this litter:
🗢 Please be sure to send your deposit and return a signed copy of our contract as soon as possible; we will mail you a receipt for your deposit; your copy of the contract will be included in puppy's informational binder that goes home with your puppy at the Puppy Party.
🗢 Next, schedule a time to meet the staff and take a tour of several local training centers and veterinary clinics to help you select the facility that best suits your needs prior to puppy's arrival.
🗢 Ensure you've selected puppy's crate area in your home and begin to assemble all the things puppy is going to need once he/she arrives home. Remember, there are lots of things coming with puppy. Click here for a list of items we will be sending home with you for your new family member.
🗢 Once you've selected a training facility, remember to inquire about the start date for their next session so you can enroll your puppy early (you'll be looking for a Baby Puppy/Puppy I/Puppy Kindergarten class beginning around the first of August).
►Please note: You may find many kennel clubs and training centers will have a backlog of folks registering for classes this summer because of mandated or elective closures during the pandemic crisis. It is very important to remember that this is a very critical time of learning and socialization for your puppy. Because the window for most of your puppy's crucial social development skills is closing rapidly, training and socialization opportunities for your puppy cannot be skipped, postponed or delayed until a more convenient time. If the facility of your choice is unable to accommodate your needs during this time frame, you may need to search a wider geographic area to find one that can accommodate you and your puppy right away. You can then return to the facility of your choice when they are better able to fit you into their class schedule later on in the year. If after searching a wider geographic area you are still unable to find a facility that can accommodate you, please reach out to us immediately so that we may assist you!
🗢 Once you've selected a veterinary facility, be sure to complete new patient information and have the reception staff start a record for your puppy; this will make things go a lot more smoothly and quickly at your first visit. A record of your puppy's veterinary care prior to their arrival home will accompany your puppy, along with a letter outlining this care and answering questions your veterinarian may have. At any stage of your puppy's life, you and your veterinarian are encouraged to reach out to us with any questions about your puppy's care: past, present or future.

February 24th through March 8th:
🗢 Schedule your one-on-one family visit with the puppies. Remember, this is very important step for us to match the right puppy with your family. Some families are able to make multiple visits and spend time with the puppies in the weeks prior to this window; we think that is wonderful and encourage frequent visits from any of our families, as it is beneficial for both the puppies and the families. Regular visits, unfortunately, do not take the place of our one-on-one family visit between these dates. This is the first the puppies' personalities are truly starting to blossom and we can genuinely get a good impression of which puppy is not only best suited to a family, but most importantly, chooses a particular family. These visits are limited to only 2 families per date (one in the morning, one in the afternoon/evening) to prevent over-tiring the puppies. We don't want the puppies to sleep through another family's visit and miss the opportunity to appropriately engage with them.

We highly encourage you to purchase your own copy of the Puppy Culture video so that you can not only follow along with your puppy's current experiences and expectations but equally importantly, so you can continue this process as puppy joins your family. March 23rd at 10:00AM:
🗢 Puppy Party!! We'll have food and info to your heart's content, so bring your appetite, and plan on about 3 hours before everyone is ready to head home with their new family member!

March 25th through next vaccination (due around April 9th):
🗢 This is optional, but many folks like to head to their vet's office for an initial exam and then several subsequent "fun" or "meet-and-greet" visits. These are a great opportunities to meet the staff and for puppy to have a pleasant, cookie-filled experience at their new doctor's office without the unpleasant pokes and prods of a typical visit. Remember to bring along your "vet's copy" and "vet letter" of puppy's medical history from us so your clinic's staff can start your new puppy's record.Try to fit in as many "fun" visits to the vet's office, as well as other car ride adventures before puppy goes for his/her next vaccination.

(around) April 9th:
🗢 Puppy's final Distemper-Parvo combination puppy booster needs administered between these dates. Schedule this appointment as soon as possible to ensure you can make your appointment for the date and time that best suits your schedule.

(around) April 30th:
🗢 Puppy's Rabies vaccine should be administered and Distemper-Parvo combination puppy titer sample collected around this date. Remember most communities require dogs to have their Rabies vaccine administered and be registered with the city/county by 6 months of age. Again, schedule this as soon as possible to ensure you can make your appointment for the time that best suits your schedule. Don't forget to check into dog licensing and Rabies vaccination registration rules for your city/township/county/state to ensure you and your puppy are in compliance. (U of M CAVIDS titer paperwork is in your go-home binder.)

June 1st:
🗢 Puppy should have his/her first puppy kindergarten class completed; be sure to look into starting the next one in succession as soon as possible. And don't forget us! Have you called or emailed with an update or posted a puppy update on our Facebook page yet? If not, please do so. We want to know how things are going for you and your pup.

December:
🗢 Christmas cards are on their way! We look forward to hearing how you and your puppy are doing and would love to see a holiday picture or two of puppy and their new family! :~)

A NEW AND EXCITING OPPORTUNITY FOR OUR UPCOMING LITTER...
We have recently encountered numerous families inquiring about adopting "older" puppies. We completely understand, some folks may not desire or necessarily have the time to manage the frequent "outs", occasional accidents on the carpet, or demands that come with bringing home a "baby" puppy who needs lots of training right-out-of-the-gate. Given that, we've partnered with our dear friend and fellow hound-lover, Brooklyn, to provide some additional socialization and skill building that goes beyond the short window of time the litter is with us.

Brooklyn is a Whippet owner and an amazing young trainer who competes in numerous AKC events, including conformation, obedience, Rally, agility, and lure coursing, to name a few. Over the years, Brooklyn has been generous enough to take on a promising puppy entrusted to her by its breeder, impart a foundation of basic training skills, home manners, as well as ensure appropriate socialization before puppy departs for its new home.

Brooklyn has been equally kind helping us rear our past litters. She has tirelessly worked with our puppies, helping them navigate basic problem solving skills, learn elementary obedience skills, work though body awareness exercises, as well as assisting us with essential socialization outings. Additionally, she has helped several of our puppies earn AKC certificates and titles while in our care! In short, she has been instrumental in our efforts to provide as many expansive learning opportunities as possible for our puppies in their short time with us.

Here's where things might be just slightly different for one special puppy...
Brooklyn has offered for a single puppy in our current litter to stay behind and attend "Camp Canfield" for up to 8 additional weeks after our Puppy Party. In that time, puppy will attend at least 1 formal puppy training class at a local training facility, have daily training and socialization opportunities, continue to work on crate training and housebreaking skills, as well as complete the AKC Home Manners Puppy Certificate requirements and earn their novice level AKC Trick Dog title.
