NEW This Litter! We will be utilizing MadCap University's Newborn to New Home Series in addition to their Puppy Culture program as we rear our puppies!
Mark Your Calendar... Important reminder dates for our puppy families: (Dates have now been added!)
Once your family has been notified they've been selected for this litter: ►Please be sure to send your depositand return a signed copy of our contractas soon as possible; we will mail you a receipt for your deposit; your copy of the contract will be included in puppy's informational binder that goes home with your puppy at the Puppy Party. ►Next, schedule a time tomeet the staff and take a tour of several local training centers and veterinary clinics to help you select the facility that best suits your needs. This must be done prior to puppy's arrival home. ►Ensure you've selected puppy's crate area in your home and begin to assemble all the things puppy is going to need once he/she arrives home. Remember, there are lots of things coming with puppy!! Click here for a list of items we will be sending home with you for your new family member. ►Once you've selected a training facility, remember to inquire about the start date for their next session so you can enroll your puppy early (you'll be looking for a Baby Puppy/Puppy I/Puppy Kindergarten/S.T.A.R. Puppy/Puppy Socialization/Puppy Foundations class beginning as soon after June 17th as possible. ◘Please note: You may find that many kennel clubs and training centers have a backlog of registrants enrolling in summer session classes. It is very important to remember that this is avery critical timeof learning and socialization for your puppy! Because the window for most of your puppy's crucial social development skills is closing rapidly, training and socialization opportunities for your puppy cannot be skipped, postponed or delayed until a more convenient time. If the facility of your choice is unable to accommodate your needs during this time frame, you may need to search a wider geographic area to find one that can accommodate you and your puppy right away. You can then return to the facility of your choice when they are better able to fit you into their class schedule later on in the year. If after searching a wider geographic area you are still unable to find a facility that can accommodate you, please reach out to us immediately so that we may assist you. ►Once you've selected a veterinary facility, be sure to complete new patient information and have the reception staff start a record for your puppy; this will make things go a lot more smoothly and quickly at your first visit. A record of your puppy's veterinary care prior to their arrival home will accompany your puppy, along with a letter outlining this care and answering questions your veterinarian may have. At any stage of your puppy's life, you and your veterinarian are encouraged to reach out to us with any questions about your puppy's care: past, present or future.
1 April ►Family surveys sent via email. Check your in-box!
21 May through 11 June ►Schedule your one-on-one family visit with the puppies. Remember, this is very important step for us to match the right puppy with your family. Some families are able to make multiple visits and spend time with the puppies in the weeks prior to this window; we think this is wonderful and encourage frequent visits from any of our families, as it is beneficial for both the puppies and the families. Regular visits, unfortunately, do not take the place of our one-on-one family visit between these dates. This is the first the puppies' personalities are truly starting to blossom and we can genuinely get a good impression of which puppy is not only best suited to a family, but most importantly, which chooses a particular family. These visits are limited to only 2 families per date (one in the morning, one in the afternoon/evening) to prevent over-tiring the puppies. We don't want the puppies to sleep through another family's visit and miss the opportunity to appropriately engage with them. ►Additionally, we rear our puppies following the Puppy Culture protocols. We highly encourage you to purchase your own copy of the Puppy Culture videos so that you can not only follow along with your puppy's current experiences, but equally importantly, so you can continue this process as puppy joins your family. Puppy Culture (click here for more info) ►Beyond Puppy Culture, MadCap University also offers additional training support for puppies and their new owners once they've headed to their furever homes. This program is called With Open Arms and a Level Head (click here for more info). This course does not take the place of in-person training classes at a local training facility but is instead meant to provide additional training support, insight, and troubleshooting assistance. The class also has a dedicated discussion group participants can join on Facebook:With Open Arms and a Level Head Puppy Course Discussion Group (click here for more info). We cannot recommend both the MadCap class and associated Facebook discussion group more highly!! And the course is currently on sale for 40% off the regular price!
17 June at 10:00AM: ►Puppy Party!! We'll have food and info to your heart's content, so bring your appetite, and plan on about three hours before everyone is ready to head home with their new family member!
19 June through 7 July: ►This is optional, but many folks like to head to their vet's office for an initial exam and then several subsequent "fun" or "meet-and-greet" visits. These are a great opportunities to meet the staff and for puppy to have a pleasant, cookie-filled experience at their new doctor's office without the unpleasant pokes and prods of a typical visit. Remember to bring along your "vet's copy" of puppy's medical history and your "vet letter" from us so your clinic's staff can start your new puppy's record. Try to fit in as many "fun" visits to the vet's office, as well as other car ride adventures before puppy goes for his/her next vaccination.
Between 8 July and 15 July: ►Puppy's final Distemper-Parvo combination puppy booster, as well as Rabies vaccination needs administered between these dates. Schedule this appointment as soon as possible to ensure you can make your appointment for the date and time that best suits your schedule. ►Remember most communities require dogs to have their Rabies vaccine administered and be registered with the city/county by 6 months of age. Don't forget to check into dog licensing and Rabies vaccination registration rules for your city/township/county/state to ensure you and your puppy are in compliance.
2-4 weeks after puppy's final DA2LPP and RV vaccination visit (around 5 Aug): ►During this visit your veterinarian (or vet tech/nurse) will draw a blood sample for you to mail to U of WI to end point titer test your puppy. This needs to be performed at least two weeks after puppy's vaccination series is completed. The purpose of this titer test is to determine that your puppy has appropriately responded to the vaccinations they have previously received. Again, schedule this as soon as possible to ensure you can make your appointment for the time that best suits your schedule. (Completed paperwork to submit your puppy's blood sample is in your puppy's go-home binder.)
August 2023: ►Puppy should have his/her first puppy class completed; be sure to look into starting the next one in succession as soon as possible. And don't forget us! Have you called or emailed with an update or posted a puppy update on our Facebook page yet? If not, please do so. We want to know how things are going for you and your pup. We love to see puppy graduation photos, too! Never hesitate to call or email with questions, concerns, or brags.
December 2023: ►Christmas cards are on their way! We look forward to hearing how you and your puppy are doing and would love to see a holiday picture or two of puppy and their new family! :~)
